A letter to Georgia's Previous Scalawag Gov.
Dear Governor Barnes,
While I do appreciate the fact that you responded to my e-mail regarding the
New "Ugliest" Georgia flag which you and other so-called 'leaders' of
our
state took it upon yourself to foist upon the residents of our great state,
I cannot, in all honesty, believe you when you state that you value the
opinions of all Georgians.
The reason I have reached this conclusion is because you and those who
helped you to 'sneak' this new flag into our midst, DID NOT give ALL
Georgians an opportunity to vote on the flag issue. That in itself belies
the "value" statement you proclaim so proudly in your return e-mail to
me!
And to top it off, you are not even man enough to take the heat for your
dastardly actions, but instead pass the blame to Georgia's Attorney General.
By the way, would you please e-mail me the name and number and date of the
Bill that does NOT ALLOW the people of Georgia the right to vote on this
issue. I am quite interested to see just how this right was taken from me
and why---and by whom!
Also, you might find it pertinent to learn that the New Flag DOES DILUTE my
pride in my state and my Governor, as well as those officials who took part
in this "robbery of my rights".
Unlike you and those who support you, I find, like other Georgians, the new
flag design ugly and foreign to my heart and eyes. I have been happy with
the Old Flag that truly represented Georgia History. As you know, part of
that history, whether you or others like it or not, was Confederate!
As to your statement about 'goodwill', your decision on the new flag
contained NO GOOD WILL toward Southerners whose ancestry is tied with the
Confederacy. The goodwill you speak of only honors the selected few whom you
believe will protect your career. Many Georgians, including my own family,
lost SO many of our family in this war. I feel the Real Georgia Flag
honored my kin who gave so much (the ultimate) for their beloved state. The
new one is a "slap in the faces" of those who willingly served our
state at
a time of great distress.
Contrary to what you say, Georgia has NOT led the South with your actions;
it has betrayed the blood of those who truly served Georgia, and shamed her
historical past when you and your cronies caved in to political correctness!
This kind of correctness is "wrongness" and I believe you and the
other
cowards who helped you know it! With your actions, you have divided
Georgians more, not less!
It does NOT bother me that national and world "eyes" are judging the
South,
and Georgia, as 'evildoers'! I know better than they the true hearts of the
real people who live in our great state. I was born here! The value of
national and world judgment is "nil" for neither is without motes of
their
own!
This is one Georgian, of many, who refuses to move forward to the beat of a
drummer (Governor, other officials) who is out of step with the masses of
our state's citizens!
You, as Governor, and the members of the Georgia legislature, have catered
to the ugly "hate" whims of the NAACP while attacking and defacing the
cherished heritage of Georgia's Confederate descendants. Your collective
actions have pained me and others beyond healing!
Proud (But not of you) Confederate,
Millie Jo Richardson
